“Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them. Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.”
Ezra 5:1-2 KJV
Meanwhile the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo were preaching to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the authority of the God of Israel who ruled them. And so Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak started again, rebuilding The Temple of God in Jerusalem. The prophets of God were right there helping them. God spoke through prophets to encourage His people to fulfil His will, and He hasn’t stopped now! For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In the new covenant the word of prophecy strengthens the entire church. We are not to scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies which are spoken revelation, words of instruction, exhortation or warning. Prophesying is for this earthly age but it’s love that is eternal. Let’s follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy to encourage and build the Body of Christ. Amen!
