“And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.”
Judges 6:11 KJV
Here was Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from the ruling Midianites. Wheat is threshed on an open elevated place where the wind could blow the chaff away. God chose this fearful man, whose name means ‘warrior’, to become a fearless warrior. But first God was going to do in Gideon what Gideon was doing with wheat - thresh his heart and remove the chaff of unbelief from his true identity. From this divine encounter Gideon was empowered to face overwhelming odds and defeat the Midianites. Through the Blood of Jesus, God sees us as warriors, clothed in His righteousness and empowered by His Holy Spirit to manifest the victory of the Cross in our lives. Let’s not be timid and fearful, but surrender ourselves to the Holy Spirit to fulfill our God given destiny of being an overcomer and more than a conqueror. Hallelujah!
