“Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, that thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.”
Luke 1:1-4 KJV
As Luke recorded, “I am writing for you, mighty lover of God, an orderly account of what Jesus accomplished and fulfilled among us. Several eyewitness biographies have already been written, using as their source material the good news preached among us by His early disciples, who were from the beginning loving servants of the Living Expression. Now I am passing on to you this accurate compilation of my own meticulous investigation based on numerous eyewitness interviews. It is appropriate for me to write this, for He also appeared to me so that I would reassure you beyond any shadow of a doubt the reliability of all you have been taught of Him.” Although addressed to Theophilus, which means “lover of God”, it is meant for all who are lovers of God even today! The early disciples ministered the Word which is Jesus Christ, the Eternal and Creative Word made visible to us. He is the divine Self-Expression of all that God is, contains and reveals in incarnated flesh. Just as we express ourselves in words, God has chosen to express Himself in Christ. Luke wrote in Greek and used the term “Logos” from above, also used by John in his Gospel, revealing that the Lord Jesus appeared to him and authorised him to compile his inspired Gospel. Let’s know God and be a lover of God inspired by His revealed Word. Amen!
