“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 KJV
Paul is encouraging all disciples of Christ to pray with gratitude to God. Also to pray for all men with all forms of prayers and requests and to intercede with intense passion, praying for every political leader and representative, so that we would live tranquil, undisturbed lives, as we worship the awe-inspiring God with pure hearts. We live in times when nations are stockpiling their arsenals for war. Jesus had warned that we will hear of wars and revolutions on every side, with more rumors of wars to come. He told us not to panic or give in to fears, for the breaking apart of the world’s systems is destined to happen. But it won’t yet be the end; it will still be unfolding. The Prince of Peace laid down His life so that we would understand that His Kingdom works in a completely opposite way. We are to be thankful for the benefits of the society we live in and to pray for those who rule over us. At Paul’s time, the known world was ruled by a cruel tyrant. God requires us to walk with His peace to show it stronger than the confusing world system of rumourmongering and disturbances. Let’s learn to intercede for our nation and the nations according to Jesus’s way of peace. Amen!
