“Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”
1 Kings 19:18 KJV
Elijah had made the Baal prophets confess that the God of Israel, He is God, and then they were slain. This so incurred the fury of Jezebel, Ahab’s wife and the chief Baal worshipper in Samaria, that she swore to kill Elijah and he ran for his life. It was in the still small voice at mount Horeb, after the earthquake and the wind that God spoke to him. Elijah told God that he had been zealous for God but now the task seemed overwhelming to him. This is the point with many in the Church today being persecuted for faith in Jesus Christ. Yet God reassured Elijah that there were yet seven thousand who had not bowed down to worship Baal. We may find that evangelising the nations is an overwhelming task but God’s people led by the Holy Spirit are still winning souls and praying ceaselessly for the Gospel to be preached to the nations. No human can convert another human being but God has been in the business of transforming human lives through the Blood sacrifice of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit even today. Let the persecuted Church know that they are more than conquerors through Christ. Let’s be confident of continuously proclaiming the Gospel to win souls for Christ. Hallelujah!
