“and let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.”
Genesis 24:14 KJV
Abraham’s servant asked a sign from Yahweh that as he says to one of the girls come to fetch water from the well that she please lower her jar and give him to drink, that she would be the girl chosen to be Isaac’s wife. The girl should reply to Abraham’s servant to drink and she would draw water for his camels too. By this sign the servant would know that Yahweh has shown His gracious love for Abraham, his master. This is what happened when Rebekah came to the well. The woman’s willingness to serve ten thirsty camels from the well showed she had a true servant-spirit. Each camel could drink 20 gallons each so Rebekah would have lowered her bucket many times till it was dark after she was done. She is a picture of the servant-bride of Jesus Christ. One act of humble service will affect the world and bring promotion to our own life. Let’s not live a life of entitlement waiting for things to be suitably perfect for us before we step into service, but let’s humbly cooperate with the Holy Spirit to fulfil our purpose in life in sweet surrender. Amen!
