“And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.”
John 21:8 KJV
The other disciples dragged the net full of fish with a little boat. They were only 100 yards from the shore. John, in this final chapter, beautifully highlights a significant parallel reflecting on the first encounter with Jesus and His disciples. In the first, James, John and Peter had toiled the whole night with nothing to show for their efforts. Now when Peter decides to go back to fishing with the others following him, Jesus reveals the greater grace dimension that eclipses their best efforts and intentions, their highs and lows in their familiar world. In that first encounter, Peter had recognised Jesus as the coming Christ. In this encounter, Peter recognises Jesus as the resurrected Christ. This revelation is the rock foundation on which the Church is built. This is the revelation where the risen Christ offers us friendship and asks us if we love Him inspite of whether we denied Him earlier. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. What amazing love is this. Believe it and receive it! Amen!
