“Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.”
Isaiah 36:1 KJV
Isaiah prophesied in the reign of Hezekiah. In the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and conquered them. Sennacherib wanted to take possession of Jerusalem by threats and intimidation but was unsuccessful. Hezekiah means ‘strengthened by Yah, captured by Yah, power of Yah’. He was considered to be a godly king releasing the greatest period of restoration in Israel’s history. Sennacherib means ‘the thorn laid waste’. Hezekiah experienced the power of the Lord Yahweh in the old covenant. Sennacherib retreated from trying to take Jerusalem and was killed by his own sons when he returned back. How much more in the new covenant by which Jesus, the King of kings destroyed all the works of the devil, do we His covenant people, might walk in victory manifesting the triumph of the Cross of Calvary! Hallelujah!
