“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:10-11 KJV
Isaiah prophesies God’s invitation to mankind to an abundant life which only comes through Jesus Christ. As the snow and rain that fall from heaven do not return until they have accomplished their purpose, soaking the earth and causing it to sprout with new life, providing seed to sow and bread to eat. So also will be the word that Yahweh speaks; it does not return to Him unfulfilled. Yahweh’s word performs His purpose and fulfills the mission He sent it out to accomplish. Snow, rain, water, seed, bread describe the Lord Jesus. He is the Seed of the woman, the Living Bread, the Way and the Life that sprouts in us. He is the Word that was sent as our Apostle, and He will not return to heaven without accomplishing all God’s pleasure. Glory!
