“Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.”
Romans 9:18 KJV
So again we see that it is entirely up to God to show mercy or to harden the hearts of whomever he chooses. When this verse is translated from Greek, it implies that God hardens hearts. But in the Aramaic it is a translated Hebrew wisdom, which says that God gives permission for the heart to be hardened. This implies that the hardening of the heart is from within the individual. That’s what happened to the Pharaoh at the time when God was delivering the children of Israel from Egypt. It says that, “But when Pharaoh saw that there was temporary relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen or pay attention to them, just as the Lord had said.” God does not interfere with our free will. The initiative comes from humans, who first release their choice, and then God gives permission for the consequences of that free will choice. Let’s thank our God that He never forces, intimidates, or troubles us to use this wonderful free gift of free will that He has given humans. Forever grateful, Father. Amen!
