”And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand. And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.“
1 Samuel 18:10-11 KJV
The next day an ugly mood was sent by God to afflict Saul, who became quite beside himself, raving. David played his harp, as he usually did at such times. Saul had a spear in his hand. Suddenly Saul threw the spear, thinking, “I’ll nail David to the wall.” David ducked, and the spear missed. This happened twice. Jealousy is caused by an evil spirit. The rage and anger of others can be overwhelming, but it’s nothing compared to jealousy’s fire. Controlling and manipulating others is a work of the flesh and its root is covetousness and jealousy. For jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. Saul’s end was tragic as a result of this. But thank God that in the new covenant, there is deliverance from bad attitudes and behaviour. When we acknowledge our sin before Christ and turn away from such things, the Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Thank You Jesus!
