“and said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments: let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.”
Nehemiah 1:5-6 KJV
Nehemiah prayed, “God-of-Heaven, the great and awesome God, loyal to His covenant and faithful to those who love Him and obey His commands: Pay attention to this prayer of Your servant that I’m praying day and night in intercession for Your servants, confessing their sins. I’m including myself, I and my ancestors, among those who have sinned against You.” True intercession is identifying with sin, and repenting and confessing it. Jesus on the Cross divided the spoil with the strong, as He poured out His soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors as He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors. In the new covenant, the Holy Spirit helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to intercede through us. Amen!
