“And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities. And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.”
Nehemiah 11:1-2 KJV
The leaders of the people were already living in Jerusalem, so the rest of the people drew lots to get one out of ten to move to Jerusalem, the holy city, while the other nine remained in their towns. The people applauded those who voluntarily offered to live in Jerusalem. After returning from exile, the Jews populated Jerusalem. As the psalmist said, “For the Lord has chosen Jerusalem; He has desired it for His home. “This is My resting place forever,” YHWH said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired.” This was king David’s Zion city. Now, because of Jesus’s finished work on the Cross, there is a new Jerusalem in heaven being prepared in which all those who follow Christ shall dwell forever. “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the Name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new Name.” Jesus’s promise to all who overcome! Let’s be overcomers ready for the New Jerusalem. Amen!
