“And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”
Genesis 50:19-20 KJV
But Joseph dried his tears and said, “Don’t be afraid. How could I ever take the place of God? Even though you intended to hurt me, God intended it for good. It was his plan all along, to ensure the survival of many people. So don’t worry. I myself will provide for you all that you need, both for you and your little ones.” Only God can judge, for He has perfect love and knows all things. Since we are not in His place, we have only the right to forgive. Many assume the role of a judge when they have someone cornered and vulnerable, but Joseph refused. He refused to harbour a grudge, but offered them reassurance and forgiveness. He understood that God turned the evil intentions of others into something good. God has power to transform pain into blessing when we see Him through it all. Joseph is a type of Christ Who said at the Cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Forgiveness is imperative for Christians who are obedient to Christ, so let’s forgive everyone and bear no grudges. Amen!
