“and set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Matthew 27:37 KJV
Above his head they placed a sign that read, “This is Jesus of Nazareth, King of Israel. This sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. Aramaic was the common spoken language in Israel because Hebrew had ceased to be the spoken language in 450 BC when the Jews returned from Babylonian captivity. Latin was the official language of the Roman Empire. Greek was for the Alexandrian Jews in Jerusalem for the Passover. The first letter of each of the four words were YHWH, writing the sacred name Yahweh. That’s why the chief priests were so offended and wanted it changed but Pilate refused. It was God’s sign that the Saviour of the world bled for you and for me. Amen!
