“nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.”
Matthew 10:10 KJV
Jesus tells His disciples to travel light, and not even to pack an extra change of clothes in their backpack. We are to trust God for everything, because the one who works for Him deserves to be provided for. The reason Jesus told His disciples to leave their things behind is that they already had what was most important. Our “money” or wealth is in the Kingdom realm of God. Our “clothing” is the garment of righteousness we wear in Christ. Our “backpack” points to our past testimonies of God’s goodness which we carry, but not our past which we don’t have in Christ. Our “shoes” is the good news we walk in as we experience the continual peace of Christ in us. Our “staff” is the authority we have in Christ. Christ is our sufficiency and He that is in us is greater than he that is in and of the world. Amen!
