“Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:”
Isaiah 10:11-13 KJV
Will God not do the same thing to Jerusalem and Samaria and their idols? After carrying out His purpose on Mount Zion and Jerusalem, God will punish the king of Assyria because of his overbearing arrogance and unrestrained pride, since he boasted, “Look what I have done by the strength of my hand and by my wisdom. See how clever I am, I have erased the borders of nations and plundered their treasures. I have been like a mighty conqueror, subduing those in strong fortresses. Blasphemously boasting, Assyria’s king equates Yahweh with all the other gods and their idols that he conquered. The same rod that God used for him will strike him down, because of his arrogance. Assyria represents human reasoning with imaginations that exalts itself against God. The inferior intellect of man falls far short of the wisdom and knowledge of God. Today Christ is the wisdom and power of God to us. Amen!
