Discipline in the Church

 “to deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.”

Paul is teaching discipline in the Church by putting out a man indulging in incest and to release this man over to satan for the destruction of his rebellious flesh, in hope that his spirit may be rescued and restored in the day of the Lord.  When a person is put out of the fellowship of the Church family, satan the accuser has access to harass and oppress.  The local church has the authority to discipline erring believers who persist in sin.  Under the old covenant that discipline was physical (execution by stoning), but under the new covenant, church discipline is spiritual.  It is not a light thing to be handed over to satan.  The accuser’s accusations consume the flesh of the erring person, until the light of the day, the revelation of Jesus Christ rises for him or her again to rescue the person from the deceit of the sin he or she have indulged in.  We do not give satan any platform to operate from and not allow our mindset to be fallen.  We are not ignorant of satan’s designs.  Let’s walk in the victory of the Cross of Christ.  Amen!
