“Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.”
1 Corinthians 7:18-19 KJV
Here Paul is dealing with circumcision with the Jews. He says that circumcision or the lack of it does not define them! In Christ, the Jewish or Gentile heritage is irrelevant and can never again be a label. No one could keep the commandments anyway, whether they’re circumcised or not! So if circumcision did not contribute anything while they were seeking to be justified under the law, how can it possibly now advantage them in their understanding of righteousness by faith? It’s not what we eat or wear, that declares our righteousness, it is only Jesus’s grace shown personally to each of us through the Cross, that declares our righteousness - entirely by faith, and no mixture added to it. Let’s be those who have a personal relationship with Jesus that declares our righteousness by faith! Amen!
