Bless Those Who Curse Us

“For my love they are my adversaries: But I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭109‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is David’s psalm as he contends with accusations, “Though I love them, they stand accusing me like Satan for what I’ve never done. I will pray until I become prayer itself. They continually repay me with evil when I show them good. They give me hatred when I show them love.”  David in the old covenant had people come against him, hate him, accuse him, betray him.  But he knew Who to turn to.  In the face of accusations and slander, David says, “I become prayer!”  In the new covenant, through the Cross where the risen Lord Jesus conquered accusations and slander, we are to bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us.  As Jesus taught us, we are to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who spitefully use us and persecute us.  It is difficult to do all this in our own strength, but thank God for the mighty Holy Spirit, here to help, teach and lead us as we do what David did - to turn to God and become prayer.  Amen!
