“and he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.”
Matthew 2:23 KJV
So Joseph settled his family in the village of Nazareth, fulfilling the prophecy that He would be known as the “Branch”, or “a Nazarene”. The Branch of the Lord would come and establish righteousness. Isaiah had prophesied this centuries ago, “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.” The teaching of the Branch of the Lord is taught right throughout Scripture, from the Tree of Life, to the seven branches of the Lampstand, to Jesus the Vine calling us His branches. This word also means “Scion and Heir of a powerful family” and “Victorious One”. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.” May we as branches of the Vine, abide in Christ and be fruitful and victorious. Amen!
