“And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God…And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.”
Luke 14:15, 19 KJV
Jesus told that when they host a feast, to call the blind, the lame, the outcast and the handicapped for great will be their reward. When they heard this, one of the dinner guests said to Jesus, “Someday God will have a kingdom feast, and how happy and privileged will be the ones who get to share in that joy!” The guest at the dinner assumed God’s Kingdom realm was coming one day, but Jesus’s parable explained that it had already begun with the invitation to come to Him, the King. Jesus replied to the guest with the parable of a man giving a great feast and inviting many guests who one by one excused themselves. One of the guests said, ‘Please accept my regrets, for I just purchased five teams of oxen and I need to make sure they can pull the plow.’ This shows that this guest was a wealthy man who foolishly chose possessions over Christ. Unless Jesus Christ is Lord over everything in our lives and we surrender to His Lordship, we cannot experience the fullness of His Presence and indeed His Kingdom realm. Let’s choose Jesus Christ above all. Amen!
