“then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed.”
Numbers 5:7 KJV
Our God is the God of restitution, recompense and restoration. He gives back to us a hundredfold even what we lose for Him! He recompensed the death of His Son by giving Him many souls. Our God expects us to make restitution and pay recompense for whatever we have taken unduly. These are vital principles for right relationships. When we sin against others, we’re sinning against God. Persecuting and hurting others is persecuting Christ Himself. That is why confession is a must - confessing to God and to the person we have wronged, whether by word or by deed. Sin confession restores fellowship with God and men. After that comes restitution just like when the Lord Jesus showed grace to Zacchaeus who being deeply convicted immediately made restitution with increase. The Lord Jesus made restitution of that which He took not away, at the Cross. When we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us. Amen!
