“Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.”
Luke 18:22 KJV
Jesus explains to the rich man who said that he had kept God’s commandments from his young days, “Ah, there’s still one thing you’re missing in your life.” “What is that?” asked the wealthy man. “You must go and sell everything you own and give all the proceeds to the poor so you will have eternal treasures. Then come and follow me.” Jesus did not teach that salvation can be earned by giving away our possessions to the poor. Jesus was showing the wealthy man that he couldn’t truly be a disciple until there was no competition in his heart to following Jesus. Jesus loves us so much that He said, “Greater love has no Man than this, that a Man lay down His life for His friends.” Let’s love the LORD our God, and serve Him with all our heart and with all our soul. Amen!
